Who We Are
The Yerwood Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1943. The mission of the Yerwood Center is to provide youth in our diverse community with educational and personal development opportunities that will empower them to reach their potential and contribute to society. The Yerwood Center’s vision is to be the premier youth center in the region where every young person, whatever their background, is valued and challenged to become the best they can be. The Yerwood facility comprises 64,000 square feet and houses critical community programs including the Child Care Learning Center, Day Care Center serving 30 pre-k children, and the New Convent House Soup Kitchen where 2,400 meals are served each week. Also, the Bridgeport Area Youth Ministry’s Computer GenesisTM Programs are currently operated out of Yerwood’s Computer Center. Yerwood serves as a community resource in a variety of other capacities too. Yerwood is a City of Stamford Red Cross Level 3 Emergency site, a designated voting location for the City, and hosts regular meetings of local non-profits and community groups including the Hispanic Advisory Committee, Neighborhood Revitalization Zone, and senior groups. Yerwood’s community activities provide critical services free of charge to community residents, and impact over 5,000 low-income clients each year.
